Son of Godzilla Mexican Lobby Card!

sonofgodzilla_mexlc.JPG

Mexican Lobby Cards are always fun to look at! Like many non-US posters, there was often new artwork created for them.

Monster Times "Gamera" Cover!

monstertimes37.jpg

Here's the cover to The Monster Times #37, which cover-featured Gamera. The Monster Times was an all-too-short-lived but much-beloved newspaper-styled magazine that covered monsters, sci-fi, comics, and more! There were a number of Godzilla covers, too, so you'll be seeing more issues here!

Godzilla Puffy Stickers!

hb_godzillastickers

Here's another example of Herb Trimpe's Godzilla art being used on a product that's not based on the comics... these puffy stickers are of characters from the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla cartoon!

Frankenstein Conquers the World Italian Poster!

frankensteinconques_ital.jpg

This is another of those Italian posters that disappoints, only because it's so plain! It's this monster in the poster that appears in "Destroy All Monsters," if I'm not mistaken.

Jet Jaguar Action Figure!

godzilla_jetjaguar.JPG

Bandai did an excellent job on this piece, as they did with all their figures!

Gigantis the Fire Monster Still!

gigantis_still.jpg

Obviously, Godzilla and Anguiris (or whichever variation of his name you prefer) got along better later on!

Godzilla Action Figure!

godzilla_bigg.JPG

Here's a fairly modern Godzilla action figure that's a lot more brown-colored than I'm used to seeing Godzilla!

Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster Italian Poster!

godzillavsseamonster_italia.JPG

As disappointing as the Italian Kong Vs. Godzilla pressbook was, this Godzilla Vs. the Sea Monster poster is positively amazing! What can I say? I love it!

King Kong Vs. Godzilla Window Card!

kongvsgodzilla_windowcard.JPG

I know, for a random arrangement, I shouldn't really have Kong Vs. Godzilla stuff two days in a row, should I? Well, it's bound to happen... I think you can see here what I was referring to in yesterday's post about the Italian pressbook, though!

Kong Kong Vs. Godzilla Italian Pressbook!

kingkongvsgodzilla_itpress.jpg

I must say, after some of the Italian movie posters I've seen, this pressbook is pretty disappointing! I expected at least some new image of Kong and Godzilla created that wasn't just a multiple-generations copy from the US poster!

Godzilla Sonosheet!

godzilla_sonosheet68_1

Here's one image of a 1968 Godzilla "Sonosheet," which is like a book and record set, but produced in Japan! This one appears to be based on "Son of Godzilla," or perhaps "Destroy All Monsters".

King Kong Vs. Godzilla Lobby Card!

kongvsgodzilla_lc1.JPG

I always thought that the "lifting Kong via giant balloons" was the silliest aspect of this movie... at least, if you ignore the design of the Toho Kong costume, anyway!

Godzilla 8-Track Tape!

godzilla8track.JPG

I'm guessing this 8-Track Tape is based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, and was probably a Peter Pan/Power Records production. I find it interesting that the artwork is Herb Trimpe's artwork from Marvel Comics' Godzilla #1 (this isn't the only time Herb's artwork got used for non-comics stuff).

Gamera Vs. Monster X Italian Poster!

gameravsmonsterx_itpost.jpg

Obviously, Gamera is known in Italy as "Kinkong." A similar thing happens with Godzilla in Germany, where he tends to be called "Frankenstein", as you saw on the "Son of Godzilla" German poster a while ago!

Godzilla Vs. Gigan Belgium Poster!

godzillavsgigan_belgian.JPG

Obviously, in Belgium, Godzilla Vs. Gigan was retitled "Planet of Godzilla" or perhaps more accurately, "Godzilla's Planet." Nice to see Ghidorah and Anguilus there... but isn't that Godzilla figure swiped from one of the Godzilla Vs. The Thing posters?

Godzilla-Like Costume!

godzilla_knockoffsuit.JPG

This Godzilla-like suit was created for a Canadian television commmerical.

Godzilla Vs. the Bionic Monster Poster!

godzillavsbionic

Of course, this movie is probably better known as "Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla," although I've heard it's also been titled "Godzilla Vs. the Cosmic Monster." The "Bionic" in the title was due entirely to the success of the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman television series at the time.

Destroy All Monsters Spanish Poster!

destroyallmonsters_span.jpg

Usually, when I find photos of non-USA countries' monster movie posters, there's something about how they designed it that makes them even more appealing than the US versions...

...and then there's this poster for Destroy All Monsters from Spain. At least, the seller said it was for Destroy All Monsters, but as you can see, there's no monster to be seen on the poster at all!

Mothra Action Figure!

godzilla_mothra.JPG

Here's the first toy to pop up in this blog, and it's Mothra! This is a much more modern piece than I usually save photos of (did I mention all these photos came from eBay auctions?), but I wanted to try to get photos of the Bandai figures of all the various monsters for my files... this may not have been a Bandai figure, for all I know!

Son of Godzilla German Lobby Card!

sonofgodzilla_gerlc2.JPG

Son of Godzilla, as I'm sure you'll recall, introduced Minya to the series, an element that many consider to be the "jumping the shark" for the original Godzilla movie series.

I dunno... I kind of liked the guy, except perhaps in "Godzilla's Revenge," when he would speak English with an annoying voice!

Gigantis the Fire Monster Italian Lobby Card!

gigantis_italianlc.jpg

As I'm sure you know, Gigantis was the first sequel to the original Godzilla, but because it was picked up in the USA by a different distributor who didn't want to license the Godzilla name, it was decided to rename him Gigantis. I've seen the Gigantis version, and the re-scripting job on it is just awful... I'd love to see if any of the versions titled "Godzilla Raids Again" are any better!

Godzilla Comic Book Page by Herb Trimpe!

godzilla14_cover_trimpe

What are the odds of two days in a row having a Godzilla comic page? This is the cover for Godzilla #14, published by Marvel Comics.

Marvel wasn't willing to pay for the rights for any other Toho monsters other than Godzilla, so they had to create new foes for the Big G to battle.

Godzilla Comic Book Page by Herb Trimpe!

godzilla16_01_trimpe.jpg

Today's photo is of page 1 of Marvel Comics' Godzilla title, issue #16. This book was drawn by Herb Trimpe, who is perhaps better known for his run drawing the Incredible Hulk! He also drew Marvel's Shogun Warriors comic.

Gappa the Triphibian Monster Italian Lobby Card!

gappa_itlc7.jpg

Here's another Italian "Photobusta" lobby card, this time for Gappa, the Triphibian Monster!

Yeah, I know, this is only the fourth day of this blog, and the only Godzilla item was the first day... be patient, there's LOTS of Godzilla to come!

Gammera the Invincible Poster!

gammera.JPG

Wow, only three days into this blog, and I'm posting Gammera (or Gamera, if you prefer) stuff? Yeah, I probably didn't mention it explicitly before, but Gamera will be popping up here and there! I'm hitting my photo files completely at random, so there's no telling what will pop up any particular day!

War of the Gargantuas French Poster!

warofgargantuas_french.jpg

Of course, you know that War of the Gargantuas is the sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the Earth... but did you know that both those films are in the same movie universe as Godzilla? It's true... one of the monsters from "Frankenstein Conquers the Earth" later appeared in a Godzilla movie!

Saturday, November 1, 2008

Welcome to Go-Go Godzilla!

So, here we are with the first post of this blog, which will focus on Godzilla, but also include other Toho creatures as well, from Mothra, Rodan, Toho Kong... even the Gargantuas! Every day, I'll feature a photo of a poster, still, lobby card, toy, or something else related to the Tohoverse of Kaigu Eiga (aka Giant Monsters)! I can promise you that there will never be a day missed, because I've already created the entries to be automatically published for the first full year of this thing!

The first posting? This poster:

godzillavsmechag_itlc3.jpg

It's an Italian "Photobusta", similar to a lobby card, for Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla!
